Note
A tool designed to hold a line of type for titling books. The type could either be foundry type, as used by printers or at a later date engraved in copper alloy. Foundry type was used from at least the mid-eighteenth century. Type-holders should not be confused with lettering pallets in which whole words were engraved on a pallet.
